The Journey Here

Welcome to our blog! DOORS Educational Center is a newly developing center which sprouted out of my passion and concern for education for children with special needs. I first began working in this field in 1998, after graduating from UCI. I was working in a growing educational therapy center that specialized in reading instruction. At the time, there was a growing interest to learn more about services for children with autism spectrum disorders. It is because of my journey working with this population that I developed a passion for teaching all children with special needs.

Since then, I’ve also taught in the classroom. However, my journey has brought me back to individualized instruction. DOORS is about ongoing learning for both the student and the instructor. We believe in collaboration, professional development, relevance, and creativity.

We now see students with ASD, in addition to those with specific learning disabilities, and ADD/ADHD. Our instruction has grown to include executive functioning skills, the use of technology, and an emphasis on diversity appreciation as a component of social skills development.

We are hoping to continue to grow and provide families with services that are forward-thinking.

Thanks again for following us on our journey!

Best wishes,

Claire Camaya
